Not even a “Hello this is my first post on garyvaynerchuck.com” stating purpose and what this website is here for?!

Either way, I am excited and now in my top 10 blogs to read.

You forgot the point about Torre taking the team to win the World Series in 3 out of the first 4 years after inheriting the team from Buck Showalter and “Stick” Michael.

That being said, Torre still has to get some credit for driving the bus. There are few … VERY FEW … managers out there… if any… who could year in and year out take the rectal abuse that the Boss dishes out while keeping an even keel, keeping the Yankee ship running smooth and keeping the player focussed on the media circus that is the New York Yankees. That’s not an easy task. Making the playoffs for 12 straight years isn’t something to just laugh at just because of the Yankee payroll.

7 Years without a World Series win isn’t a knock either (remember its only been 4 years since a WS appearance) especially in a playoff system on steroids (no offense Mr. Bonds). There are 3 rounds of playoffs now. That’s a LONG Post Season that follows a very long regular season (which follows spring training). Before Joe? The Yankees finally sniffed the playoffs in ‘95 (Mattingly’s final season) and hadn’t been anywhere near it since 1981 when Richard Todd was the QB for the Jets. Sad huh?

    Gary, Gary,

I love your wine show. Stick with that. Compare your Jets to the yanks. Hey, the team my just explode. If Joe leaves and the super stars say that’s it. Look out NY. New boss and new manager, They could end up like the Giants. Maybe a change is good for the short term, 1 year but do we want billy ball back, Mangers in and out.

Stay off the 20/20 wine and Go Redskins.

    later RJ.

    Hilarious! Keep it up!

The color seems to get better when you are closer to the camera. I say go Ze Frank style and sit 6 inches from the camera for the duration.

  5. Jeffrey Says:

Settle down on the salary stuff G. How much of it was Farnsworth, Clemens, Giambi. How much did they help? Cashman made a lot of bad deals, so don’t hand the payroll thing off on Torre. He was playing alot of guys who made almost no scratch.

Hit up the Yankees thread in the forums for some fierce debating ;)

  6. SS Says:

Your just one of those little spoiled ass Yankee fans.

    Last 12 years: 1 Manager, 12 playoffs appearances, 6 pennants, 4 championships

    Previous 10 Years: 9 Managers, 1 playoff appearance, 0 pennants, 0 championships.

You cannot guarantee playoff series in baseball….teams get hot. This year the Indians batted .800 w/ 2 outs and runners in scoring position. You’re going to lose when anamoly’s like that happen.

As you know I’m a Met fan, but what I most admired about the Yankees over this last dedcade is how they played the game. They played it right…..this is a testament to Mr. Torre.

And even if you think he should have been fired, I can’t believe you didn’t mention a thing about how poorly the Yankee brass handled this situation. No one can argue that Torre didn’t deserve to be treated with respect. And what did the Yankee brass do. Well they decided they didn’t want Torre…but rather than have the balls to say that and take whatever backlash comes with that. But they choose to take the completely cowardly route of giving him a completely BOGUS offer, one that they knew he would turn down, in an effort to try and put the responsibility on Joe because he didn’t “accept” their shitty offer. That was utterly despicable….shameful….cowardly.

You should be upset about that….you spoiled little Yankee fan!!

  7. KAHUNA Says:

You know there are good reasons that Joe Torre should have been fired yet you managed to miss all of them- perhaps another 2 minutes and you might of have gotten a few!

  8. TGatesman Says:

Amen!! If you can’t win with that talent then I’m sure there are a lot more managers out there that can…time to move on

  9. Adam Says:

Being from St. Louis, I share in your *not missing* of Joe Torre.

    OVERRATED!!!

  10. Sam Says:

Now come on buddy. What about the fans of the other 90% of teams that can’t even pull together 100 million dollars total? What about all the Brewers, Pirates, Devil Rays, Royals, etc. fans who despite it all, still come out and root for their ENORMOUSLY underdog teams.
Winning isn’t a right, as the Atlanta Braves showed with playoff appearance after playoff appearance and 10,000 empty seats at each game. Anyone whose team has over a decade of consecutive playoff slots has no business complaining about anything their team does beyond that.
If you can be a fan of the Jets regardless of record, why can’t you show the same respect for the Yanks? Many of us are still waiting for our first playoff berth in decades, and we manage not to cry foul.

  11. Erik Lud Says:

Wait … I’m not the only one who turns down $5M/year?

  12. Angels own the Yankees Says:

    Gary:

It’s not Torres fault. The team has no chemistry. The players love Torre so they are playing their asses off for him. Their pitching sucks, period. What a waste of money Clemens was.

As an Angels fan, I love the decision. As a baseball fan, bad move. Can’t wait till A-Rod is playing for the Angels next year!

  13. Boog Says:

Who is the dude in the back on the phone at the beginning of the video?

  14. Fiorentina! Says:

    Hey Gary-

    Wow….

Alright…that’s all I have to say about that

  15. Tom T. Says:

You have to be kidding. Torre is not the one batting under .200 for the last playoff series, or the one signing old has-been pitchers (Clemens) and duds (Pavano). If you only sold 80 point wines you’d be out of a job too. In any case it goes to show that money does not buy championships. IMO they will never win it with A-Rod. Sure A-rod will get them to the playoffs, break a few more records on his way to the HOF, but he just doesn not show enough heart. I’m not a Yankee fan but my blame goes to A-rod and Cashman, not Torre.

  16. Boozer Says:

    Gary,
Turn it down a notch man, your turning into a character of yourself.

  17. MichaelP Says:

Gotta tell you that you’re way off base here. Torre built up enough cred throughout 12 very successful yrs & he deserved better than the bitch-slap of a contract offer he got. Is it his fault Steinbrenner was hungrier than any other owner in MLB? He just so happens to own a team in the biggest market & spends his $$ rather than pocket it. He’s not the only big market team dude. Plenty of others. Only now have they begun to spend.
