  2. Victor Says:

    Some sound advice!

  3. Geoff DiMasi Says:

    I couldn’t agree more.

We need to get the word out about the BPP, so that the world can be a better place.

  4. ilan Says:

but the big picture always makes us smaller.

  5. Justine Says:

    You are the best.

  6. Chris D Says:

In another word…perspective … I agree it most certainly helps and should be focused on when the stress or bumps in the road of life are encountered ..thank’s for the reminder Gary

  7. cdavis Says:

Weird that another Chris D has commented… I cannot agree with you more. If I start stressing about work or something at home i just think about my family, wife, health and how fortunate i really am. Dont sweat the small stuff! Put life in perspective. Its shocking how much better you fell when you take a step back and take it all in.

  8. Pamela Says:

I often wonder what makes me so happy. Sometimes I’ll be walking down the street and some guy smile at me and I wonder, what’s with that guy and then I realize that I have a big stupid grin on my face and they are responding to it.
    Life is sweet!

  9. KAHUNA Says:

    Who’s Gary?

  10. JK from WV Says:

Great perspective on the the big picture. Appreciate the moment and what and who you have. Continue hard work and being good. Help those who are less fortunate. Come to know what underprivileged means because those of us who are blessed should help those are not. Take care.

  11. MW_DM,IA Says:

Back in school we had an activity where we had to list the 4 things most important to us, then give up 3, 1 at a time. I was left with “my mum’s health and happiness” at the end. I just count myself lucky to have all 4 still (friends’ health and happiness, ability to help, my health and happiness).

And here I thought it was emotional issues or something that kept me from getting dragged down by daily inconveniences…

  12. Karol Says:

Nothing more important in life than health, family and friends. Everything passes, including the problems in life if you can just wait it out.

  13. Joseph Rones Says:

Gary, How do you have the time for all of these sites. I mean between the wine library an twitter and, etc., etc.? And, so the object of all of this is what?

  14. Sam Brower Says:

Just enjoyed this video, had a bit of trouble with a bit of depression hitting me this week, and this put it back in perspective and helped me out. Linked it up to my blog as well.

  15. Winosaurus Says:

So, if it weren’t for Vinny Testaverde, you would be 100% happy? Let it go, Gary! LET IT GO! It’s not like he was ever in the stratosphere of a Joe Montana or Steve Young. Vinny was more like a poor man’s Steve Bono, if that… ;o)

  16. SoCal Says:

I like the 120. Nice of you to take it off facebook and go mainstream. As for the rant I would have to agree with you. Too many times in life we get consumed with the monotony of daily existence, this causes us to forget what is important. Forcing one self to remember what is important can help keep your head when others are loosing theirs. :)

  17. JerseyGirl turned CNY Vayniac Says:

Gary, you’re totally right. When i get upset about something I always ask… “Am I sweating the small stuff?” Cause if it’s small and I won’t remember it in a month, or a year or 10 years, it’s not worth it! I’m healthy, I have a good job, good friends, great wonderful spectacular family… it’s all good!

  18. italianwinelover Says:

Gary-I love the 120! After listening to this a couple days ago I have been thinking of this perspective every morning on the drive into work!! You totally have your heart and head in the right place! With all the hell thats breaking loose in peoples life, you point out the obvious we all should be focusing on! Health, family, love, friends and of course wine! With those we will succeed far greater than our expectations!!!

  19. Paul Says:

OK, as usual, not easy to figure out with this stupid Mac I have. What do I need to see this? Right now I just get a blank where your rant should be.

  20. Russ J Says:

No mention of dad? Hmmmm. Issues?

  21. Lyn Says:

It’s not hard to be happy when you believe in yourself. That’s my “BPP”.

  22. CampingLisa Says:

I so agree…It is about the BIG PICTURE> Even if your health fails (like getting cancer)…your view of life (I chose 1/2 full) makes a difference in how your body fights it!

  23. Ryan Fujiu Says:

your perspective is refreshing. thanks for sharing man, bpp ftw!

  24. koenraad Says:

yeah; health of the people you are very close to is so very very important, but depression then really strikes when that goes wrong of course.

In my opinion, the way to cope with things eventually comes from sheer will-power.

  25. john witherspoon Says:

BPP - love it. I was already spreading the word today at work.

    J DUB

  26. Withnail Says:

SoCal - nothing personal, just found it funny/interesting that you would say “nice of you to take it off Facebook and go mainstream’.
I don’t like Facebook myself, but it is a mainstream monster right now. I can’t avoid it to get some things done.

  27. Sam Brown Says:

Listening to GV makes me happy on a daily basis! Keep pumping the videos out Gary!

  28. Jeff Louella Says:

Who’s Down Wit BPP? Yah You Know Me!!! :)

  29. Grapedigger Says:

Well said GV!!!…BPP is, indeed, a way to go..
Maybe next time you could give us 120sec on what pisses you off in life (you know, the other 1%)…

  30. ilan Says:

    delete the first one,
    i get it now!

  31. drew olanoff Says:

    Amen brother.

  32. Amanda Gravel Says:

Remembering this will make my day better tomorrow. Well said.

  33. CB Says:

But what if all your family and your success disappeared, etc?
Where would your happiness stem from then?

There’s got to be something within YOU to produce the happiness so that your happiness does not depend on anything external.

And there is. It’s always been there.

  34. Christopher Masto Says:

I’m glad you posted this, Gary. I was really bummed out at SXSW for a while and I was actually planning to ask you how you stay so damn positive all the time. Fortunately, I got over myself, but I’ll keep your BPP in mind.

  35. Amy Says:

I recently started “reasons to be thankful” twitters. It just came to me while I was on a walk. I start each one with “#R2BT” and list out what I’m thankful for right then. I would love it if others started doing this. It would be a good reminder to all of us everytime we saw someone else doing it. Also, I like the idea of having a log of things that I’m thankful for. Someday when I’m down (this is rare…I’m kind if like Gary…) it could come in handy.

  36. Steve Says:

What if your Big Picture sucks? =D

  37. paisano Says:

Thanks for sharingthe secrets to your massive success.
BPP lol…cute and easy to remember. I think it’s the same thing as learning the fine art of focussing which is skill most of us need to work on all the time and suck at. A wise man told me point blank during chat that my biggest problem was “my ability to stay focussed”. Ouch. He then shared an original quote that I will never forget, “The sun can warm a field of daisies or it can burn a hole thru 10 inch steel” wow. I think of that every day now as I start to meander and waste precious time on things that aren’t part of my top priorities or goals in life, the things I need to stay focussed on! Who was this wise friend? Our very own Chris Brogan.

Good stuff, Gary. No one is more focussed than you are!

  38. Keith Burtis Says:

Gary, so true man, so true. The fact is…you are what you feel. Biology states that we are what we feel. We are what we think. Being happy releases chemicals that allow us to function at a higher level. When we function at a high level we resonate at a high level and attract and effect those people that come into contact with us. Great video Gary!
    Keith Burtis

  39. AKDocmike Says:

Gary V…props to this message. Yup, when it’s all said and done, you’re not thinking about all the greenbacks you made or what kind of cars you rolled up in. You think about the moments with those you truly care about. Staying true to your roots is the key to any success. And it doesn’t make sense if you’re super wealthy and have no one in your life to share it with. Peace!

  40. Walker Says:

Shouldn’t that be a “Very Small Picture Patch”: Given that there is @6,658,662,410 people in the world (http://www.census.gov/ipc/www/popclockworld.html), being focused on the 5 most immediate relations to onself, or 1/1331732482 of the population, it is a bit of a stretch to qualify this as “Big”.

  41. Myrna Says:

Enjoyed video! To someone who has ‘everything’ watch Oprah and Eckhart Tolle’s Live Webcast on Monday nights(you can listen or download anytime) and let me know if you get more love & happiness.

There aren’t many like Eckhart Tolle and it is a gift to hear him. Lucky us that Oprah is doing this now.

  42. GKepps Says:

Today was the perfect day for me to receive this pick-me-up. Thanks for this GV. You’re a strong, positive force. keep it coming.

  43. Myrna Says:

    Sorry, it’s at http://oprah.com

  44. Casey McKinnon Says:

Veronica just linked to this on Twitter, so it’s the first time I see it.

I kinda wish that I could be this happy all the time, but I have a deep-seeded desire to best all the people who bullied me in high school.

In my graduation year I felt that committing suicide would “show them”, but I (thankfully) realized it was a bad choice. Still, I can’t help but still feel the need to excel in something spectacular to make them feel jealous about me at our high school reunion.

Really… my life and ambitions are built upon this idea of trying to be the best. But, you’re right… as long as my loved ones are well, things should be right in my world view. I guess it’s BECAUSE no one in my immediate family and friends has been seriously ill before that I haven’t lost my selfish goals.

Then again, I unfortunately don’t feel like I’ve had very many GOOD friends. I often feel that friends are temporary… they happily use me for a while and when they get bored, they disappear. Sad but true.

My… I am rambling at this point… :P Time to get to bed.

Goodnight, new friend… may you stay around a while :)
    C.

  45. Tim Trueman Says:

It makes me happy to just to see people this happy!

  46. Don R Says:

True that! Every event holds the potential for our purpose and destiny…it’s all in how you view the events. Is the glass half empty or…well you know how it goes.

  47. Clintus McGintus Says:

Great way at looking at things bro. Being happy is the only way to go.

  48. Sonciary Honnoll Says:

This is great advice! I love interacting with shiny happy people. :)

  49. manonthemoon Says:

I think we all would be better if we were all able to take a look at all we have and all that we can accomplish. People today seem to get so caught up in what we don’t have and miss out at all they have: good health, family, love, etc. My wife and I were actually talking about how lucky we have it last week while on vacation. To think about the portion of the world that is either in war torn areas or starving we should all be thankful we are where we are. Keep up the good work G. Vee.

  50. Jon V Says:

What a good reminder for me to work on my BPP.

  51. LeftOutside.com » Word O’ The Day Says:

[...] Expectations: Just wondering if it could be the secret to happiness. He certainly doesn’t think so …. or does [...]

  52. TheNerd Says:

That’s some very refreshing advice. Most people think that being happy is complicated when it really isn’t. Cheers to you!
