Happy Birthday! I guess the great CNN article was a little early birthday present.

Who are the bobbleheads on the front of your desk? If 32 is bad, what about my 34? Blech. At least you have your hair.

Happy Birthday Vay-Ner-Chuk!
I just turned 26 on the 4th, and I felt the same way.
But I went out with my favorite people and made a fun evening of it anyway. The celebration is what you make it!
Ciao,
Daniel

I agree with you on a lot of it Gary. I’m not huge on my own birthdays either.
Don’t look at it as how little time you have left! Look at it as how much you’ve accomplished in just 32 years! You’re married, you’ve got a successful business, you’ve become an internet celebrity, and in the process have turned thousands on to something you love. Now I see you leveraging that to accomplish even more! With the power of crowd sourcing, everyone’s ability to accomplish things increases exponentially.
Keep it up, and Happy Birthday!
November 14th, 2007 at 5:31 pm
Hey it’s not so bad. Consider the alternative
November 14th, 2007 at 5:38 pm
Think of it a different way. The more birthdays you have, the more chance you have to do the things you want and be with the people you want to be with. No more birthdays, no more chances. Turn that frown upside down! Sappy, I know.

32 isn’t so bad, lots of good things are associated with it too. Personally, I don’t put too much energy into “hating” things. I absolutely agree with you, life is too short. I feel like I could go through several widely different career paths and enjoy myself just as much. But hey, if you don’t spend too much time brewing over this regret you’ll have more time for the fun stuff.

Hey, you’re hatin on Kevin McHale? How dare ye? Well, it just means you’re old enough to remember him.
November 14th, 2007 at 7:25 pm
Happy Birthday! My philosophy is not to waste any time worrying or sweaten over how old you are. That is just wasting the time the Lord has given us.
GV you ROCK!
November 14th, 2007 at 8:10 pm
Yeah, I remember when I was your age or actually turning 30. I was freaking, so made list of thing I wanted to accomplish. The list gets bigger and occasionally I check one off. I don’t freak anymore … much. Happy Birthday GV
P.S. I started skydiving at that time, don’t much anymore because I’m so busy, but if you get a chance, you really need to try that~ JC

Happy Birthday, it is sad I actually had to stop and think how old I was.
November 14th, 2007 at 9:31 pm
Man, you are a complete freakin’ downer on your birthday.
November 14th, 2007 at 11:03 pm
Gary, you are YOUNG and you are VERY SUCCESSFUL, you need to be thanking all your lucky stars that you have what you have at such a young age.
chill out, pop some champagne, smoke a joint, and enjoy what you have accomplished up to this point. Good god…

Gary-
Happy 32nd! I hope you’ll count this is one of the 1000 (well, I’m sure you won’t need to count it to be over 1000): I couldn’t access winelibrary.com, so I’ll leave a comment here Having your dad on the show was an *awesome* idea; what a charmer he is, although he didn’t really seem to understand the idea of sniffy-sniff :~P
Regarding the QoTD: I’m going to have to call it a tie — you and your dad are both very handsome; he looks really young; well, you do too.
About your 120: I totally understand exactly why you hate birthdays; I feel the same way. I tried cancelling my birthday (i.e., not celebrating it at all), but of course I’m still getting older whether I recognise it or not. If you haven’t (and even if you have) you should read “Man’s Search for Meaning”; in it, Frankl suggests the view that we are able to do meaningful things in our lives *because* we age, suffer, and die (and not in *spite of* those things). It’s a great book to put things into perspective.

Turning 30 three weeks back gave me the same sensation… the non-celebratory feeling that makes you want to stay home with peace and quiet.
I spent a special day with my G-Friend and there’s nothing more special and rewarding then celebrating with someone you care about with a bottle of wine (which she looked up on Wine Library TV due to my on-going fascination with the show and the movement, haha!).
Thanks as well to you Gary for the un-intended birthday gift you gave me in mid-Oct and all the best for you and yours!

December 3rd, 2007 at 7:16 pm
O.J. Simpson…screw him. Magic wore #32. nuff said.
December 24th, 2007 at 1:27 am
Yep, I’m exactly like you Gary! My birthday’s only 3 days after you, but I’m 34. I used to remember when I was the youngest and suddenly that’s not the case. And, I feel totally lost in this whole blogosphere.
I came across your interview with Rich Schefren and it was exactly the encouragement I needed to keep going!
And, it was too weird because you said you can’t believe there’s no lawyer out there doing it, well, that’s me baby!
Now I just need to figure out how to make my blog more interesting. My commitment for 2008 - VIDEO! Now I just have to figure out how to look camera ready everyday.
Thanks for the encouragement Gary.

Yeah, 32 is kinda sucky but, don’t worry: 33 is WAY cool–so you have that to look forward to. Three is the magic numba. I know. I hated 32. 33 is def a respite in crappy number line-up.

Perhaps no one has pointed out to you the FABULOUSO COOLER THAN THOU nature of 32. @ *this* point (4+ months in the game) I sure as hell hope so.
But, FOR THE RECORD:
32 is the ONLY time you’re gonna be to the FIFTH power (beyond the age of one) IN YER FRIKKIN LIFE.
Unless you live to 243, which is HELLZA unlikely.
So 32 is a fist-full of power (root=2 btw).
& sure, that’s some rudimentary mathematical geekery goodness for you, but it doesn’t matter. 32 rawks.
Given that you might very well be the current king of anti-meh? may that be some extra tasty sprinkles on your sundae.
