I thought it would be cool to talk about my personal thoughts on my DNA and how I adjust to it. Dealing with “ME” is the key to “ME” and the key to the new Social media for anyone.

Gary thanks i am a big fan of these quick vids about your take on certain situations.
btw i think that the “over-the-topness” of WLTV has a good balance to it actually. and it’s not annoying or anything.
going to send the wristband photos tonight when i get back home. thanks again!

Very interesting stuff. I think a lot of people are so focused on going out there and making it happen that they forget to take the time to look honestly at themselves and see what would work best for them. Dude, I love how the 120s are slowly growing 360s. Pretty soon they’ll be 30 minute shows.
March 27th, 2008 at 4:31 pm
I love the fact that you focused on “the real world” still being of importance over “the virtual world.” I think you’ve done a great job of winning people over. Some people have told me that you can’t satisfy everyone, but who’s to stop you from trying. I know you’re not stopping. L8R.
March 27th, 2008 at 4:35 pm
Completely agree with you Gary. There’s a lot out there, but there’s still so much offline that can get neglected. Appreciate your vBlogs quite a bit. Keep it coming.
March 27th, 2008 at 4:36 pm

Gary is a posterboy for the post-modern thinker. A+
March 27th, 2008 at 5:09 pm
Yep, guess what? Our “virtual life” is beginning to be “just another part” of our “real world life”.
Those who will be “making it happen” long term are those who are truly coming from the heart their “DNA”.
If you are not “online” who you really are “in real life” your kinda missing the whole point of what the internet can “really” do.
Peace Gary, bring the thunder!

I think this goes hand-in-hand with what you said in a previous vlog about transparency in the 2.0 Universe. You gotta find your own voice and then rock it out the best you can. My husband is fond of saying that “being genuine is the new irony.” Viva!

“The cave you fear to enter holds the treasure you seek.” -Joseph Campbell.
Be true to yourself. I’m wishing I coined the term “It’s a DNA game.” You have the ability to simplify complex ideas. Keep it up and I hope we meet at a conference down the road.
March 27th, 2008 at 6:02 pm
That was freaking awesome,it took me a little longer to understand my DNA than it looks like it took you, its fun being who you are and not what people want you to be.
March 27th, 2008 at 6:12 pm
“DNA it up!” haha… LOVE IT!
Also “we’re in a great goldrush of community”… that’s so rad, and so true. i <3 my internet friends!
You’re so awesome, Gary! I wish I was there to give you a big hug. What a wonderful, loving, giving friend you are. Thank you so much for sharing it all with us. MWAH! xo

Its a rare thing to find someone with such passion, intelligence, and really the best thing; common sense, not only in a business industry, but just in life in general. Youre a keeper Gary! Dont ever stop growing. You are changing the world a little at a time. Keep it up baby im behind you! You will leave a great legacy on this world if you do! Which is what we all should aspire to. You should check out the book “Personality Plus” by Florence Littauer. It will give you insight as to who you are and why other people respond to you in such a way. Master that and you are well on your way! And I take it you are on the nature side of the nature/nurture debate? -Also worth looking into!

Oh Gary. The “DNA Game” title is what caught me. My daughter (the most beautiful, fun Art Teacher in Charlotte, NC) called me yesterday, hollering “OH Mommy, I know you will understand this, we share genetics!” No kidding. She’s in the middle of moving & found two bottles of home-made Kahlua (”family recipe”). She was so excited and knew that her “mommy” (she’s 26) would share her enthusiasm. In addition, my sister, Lynelle (Vayniac original) and I share so much in traits that we (oh, I can’t even ’splain it) laugh just because we’ve laughed (in the same manner ~ scary!) at the same things. The DNA game is such a bit part of my life. My family. Words fail.

Awesome - transparency, yes! Reconciling the interactions is a huge step.
March 27th, 2008 at 9:19 pm
It’s hard for folks to be true to their DNA because they can easily get so caught up in the silliness that is thrown at them by media in general. Sad, but so many people watch reality shows, etc. and want their lives to be something else…when at the end of the day, they wasted all that time NOT embracing who they are and moving forward.
Good stuff, Gary. It takes quite a bit of oomph for someone to look at themselves and say, yup, this is who I be and I’m going to rock at it. Sadly, many people will never get to that point.
March 27th, 2008 at 9:20 pm
Gary…. I just have a few week of knowing you, and what you do…. And as you say, you do sound Over The Top, but for me that brings excitement….. Some people would say you are a fake, but my DNA makes me believe in people first and then judge if they turn out to be something different…

Gary, as I said the other night, knowing you has truly made my life better. (I know that sounds super cheezy but I truly mean it!) Finding people that are authentic and genuine is something that is really important to me, and I think you embody this more than anyone else I know. Super inspiring - I love ya!!
March 27th, 2008 at 9:44 pm
No soda?! GV! You had a rootbeer on the table in one of the last few thunder shows… and you mentioned you’d just had rootbeer before tasting on a show last week as I recall
so remember–as you so aptly put–EVERYONE is the media now… and we’re paying attention!
Also note, DNA can be altered… and you don’t have to ’stand pat’ on your DNA. You can grow interesting new facets of your DNA in a petrie dish. You can get bionic. You can make yourself better. Just because you know yourself ‘one’ way… and that is ‘what you do’ and ‘who you are’… it doesn’t mean you can’t still be the first one on Mars if you really want to go. If you want something bad enough, and are willing to gut it out, you can make amazing things happen. Regardless of DNA. It happens.
Understanding your DNA is one thing, building on it is another… keep it moving. “Fixed fortifications are a monument to the stupidity of man.” It’s a George S. Patton quote used in metaphor, but apt. Play with the chemistry set. Unknown explosions you didn’t expect make life interesting.
and by the way, coffee makes me invincible. i know this to be true about my DNA. I rated my Kona blend a 95+ pointer this morning.
March 27th, 2008 at 9:50 pm
You know Gary, I love watching WLTV, your knowledge is immense and your passion for wine is infectious. However, I have to say I’m even more excited to see your videos here! Whether I see it on Twitter or in Google Reader, if you post a new video I stop everything and come over to see what you have to say.
Keep up the good work, thanks for your passion and your generosity, you’re rocking!
PS: Whenever I tell people about WLTV I always say they need to sit through two or three videos before they can decide whether they like you or not because it seems like the people who are turned off initially by how over the top you usually end up really liking the show once they dig into it a bit.
March 27th, 2008 at 9:52 pm
Whiskey may be called “the water of life”, but wine is the adventure of the soul.
I got into wine at a late age-I was my middle forties. I got into the flavors of wine and how it excited the senses. I found, after engaging in conversation with people I’ve met, that there was a shared passion and excitement for life. The discovery started when the conversation was about our favorite vintages and varietals, and it would expand beyond just grape juice and into the best things of life and living.
Gary and his insight on this adds tremendous motivation on looking past the follies of the whole wide world, and looking at the wonders of my own little world. For that little bit more in my life, I’m very thankful.

hitting the nail on the head brother - we all should know each other as well as you know yourself. No fluffing here, that’s the most impressive thing about your persona - there is a real sense of centered-ness about you even though you’re nutso bouncing off the wall. Watching your stuff you get a feeling of sincerity that is lacking from many other folks. keep up the good work brother, if you have any pointers on getting more centered, more in touch with your own DNA, please do share.

I think the most appropriate thing I can say here Gary is…

Thank you for this. Your words are honest, touching and inspiring. I’m so glad that my friends at indyhall pointed me in the direction of GV.com and WLTV (and following you on twitter). Your words have sparked many thoughts and pushed me to take a deeper look at where I’m at, what personal brand I’m presenting, etc.
As a freelance writer I totally value communication, and know how crucial it is to be true to who we really are, present our honest passions in life and most importantly see how our passion can help others.
thank you.

March 28th, 2008 at 1:14 am
Hey Gary,
Lovin’ the GV.com stuff. I could watch these short snippets every damn day… love wltv too… but those are prob a twice a week thing for me.
Totally agree… it is all a DNA game but too many people try to use other peoples DNA cause they don’t know who the hell they are. I think a lot of it is that people have ideas of what they “should be”… rather than who they REALLY ARE.
Man, to tell you the truth I had a tough time tapping into my DNA… and figuring out really what the hell I was all about at my core. When you’re livin’ from your core… things are so much easier, more fun, and way more successful.
Great stuff man! (oh, it was great meeting you in Orlando at Schefren’s event… way cool of you to stay after for 4 hours! When you come to Portland shoot out a note to everyone… I’d love to take you around the wine country here.)
Cheers,
- Trevor

Great post GV.
I think it’s how you translate your DNA into the things you love, and what you want to do with your life.
Example: You knew you had a personality that just couldn’t be contained, so you found an outlet (WLTV, GV.com)to channel what your DNA is giving you. And using the DNA/being yourself mindset allowed you to make something that at first seems like an odd fit (Wine/Tech) become incredibly successful, and infinitely enjoyable.
March 28th, 2008 at 2:46 am
I think that was more than 120 seconds…
You’re on a roll - these last 4-5 are of a piece.
Keep up the great work.

Once again, nicely done. Without our world, our experiences, knowledge, both positive and negative traits and interactions in it the virtual/online world(s) wouldn’t make much sense or even exist for that matter. They would lose their appeal. Twitter and other social networking services are just bridges that connect us, real people from different parts of this beautiful planet.
See you all on Twitter (@topicm).
March 28th, 2008 at 1:53 pm
Love it. Being self-aware is so powerful, and really is the key to personal branding, and also knowing not _everyone_ would like you and THAT’S OKAY. Also, being accessible. Confidence and energy is so inspiring.
Love ya, Gary.

“Those are things my friends. This other stuff, it’s easy.” -Gary Vaynerchuk
What a great quote! This is the first video on garyvaynerchuk.com that I’ve watched, and previously, I had respect for you because of your wine knowledge and your drive to change something in the world, wine. Now, after watching this video blog, wow! I am always looking for influential people to help shape and mold the way I think and act, and you have done so my friend. Believe me when I say that I will be tuning into this site just as much as I do winelibrarytv to learn about more than just wine from you.
In conversation with another influential person in my life, I was told to find people who will help you grow in your career and overall life. Seeing your success with winelibrary and your joy and passion for life and people has lead me to believe that you are one of those people. The internet is a funny thing, people half way across the country can still have the same influential power as someone at the desk right next to you. Thank you!
Keep up the videoblogging and WLTV, would love an email from you Gary. Take Care!
June 19th, 2008 at 9:32 pm
Not in the class of those guys? You’re CLASSIER than any of those guys, simply because you’re doing it RIGHT. You’re trying, you’re putting yourself out for the public because you want to interact WITH the public, instead of talking AT the public. It’s very impressive and I for one admire it a great deal.
You’ve spoken to me directly more than once and I really got excited and really appreciated it because someone who is SO BUSY and getting so popular took a moment out of his day to recognize one person, one-on-one, and it happened to be me!
I’m confident that you’ll keep doing what you do, and I hope that it makes you as happy as it makes people like me. A little bit, a little smile, a little reach out, a little anything, can go along way if it’s passed along. And you, with a little bit of me and the rest of the fans, I believe we really can change more than just the wine world.
