Out of all the things I do these days it is SPEAKING that gets me “off” more then anything else. I hope my insight to what I think about can help you in a small way.

Do you script any of your talks or are they all off the cuff?

Thanks, Gary. People are wonderful. I’m betting you got as choked up hearing about the great loss of Tim Russert as I did.
I’m way way way upset that I’m not there in Boston today. You’re right in my backyard and I couldn’t make it. But it’s a reason you’d understand. My parents flew up from FL to spend my Dad’s birthday today with his new granddaughter. I am going to have to get this book signed somehow! Thanks as always.

Really pumped to see you speak tonight, man. Thanks for the insights. I’m speaking on a panel next weekend, and I’m going to keep all of this in mind.

Great line- you can’t bring a hockey stick to a basketball game. Can’t wait to meet up tonight and tape the show!

Although I totally agree with you about speaking ‘to’ your audience, I also think that your charisma and warmth are incredible and I enjoy listening to you speak no matter what. Your enthusiasm is contagious, no matter what! Look, I’m a recovering alcoholic with sixteen years of sobriety, but, I LOVE hearing you talk about wine! It fascinates me!
Like I said, you definitely made a good point, I just wanted to say that you’re a special kind of person, who just doesn’t fit the mold of ‘all those other speakers’ out there!

Hope you are enjoying your trip to Boston. Keep up the GV.com videos. Almost like a “quote of the day” series. I’m really looking forward to the meet up tonight and the live WLTV!

Bottom line: Know your audience! Simple pearl of wisdom from Gary V. Cool!
Have a great day!

Great post gary, very relevant at a time when SXSW has opened up the gates to pitch panels. So many people just get up to yammer about what they think people want to hear, telling the same old tales. I think it’s key to get feedback, address the audience. I wish that SXSW panels had more discussion.
Hope you’re cooking up something good for Pixelodeon Festival in December, it’s going to be so rad!

The insight that you provide here is priceless. I love the transparency. Like you have said many times before, its about being transparent by putting it all out there.
It’s the same when speaking in front of a group of people. Bring it the same, on stage or in the hotel lobby.

Nice Video. Gray, I know about your post and its effectiveness because I have watched this video.

Hi there!
What excellent advice! Know your audience, talk right to them; have a multitude of one on one convrsations…and something you practiced from frame one; be so passionate about your topic that your listener can SEE it on your face, in your body and through your voice.
Sincerity allows wins!
I’ll have to follow you my firend!!

Your passion is what it’s about! You love people, your subject, and life! Too many times speakers talk and have pretty things to show, BUT they lack passion. We communicate in three ways….orally, visually, and with feeling. Your Europeon background comes out with a volcano of passion…. a new expression…VAYNER VOLCANO.
Want to spiff up your presentation on WINE TV?? Try adding a little music in the background that adds to the overall passion of your communication. They do it in the movies. Why not your shows???
