Gary hits a home run again with his brilliant vision casting!
Here’s an idea, come up with a show that comes up with ideas for shows, and sells them to people that can’t come up with their own ideas! BOOYA…
Too bad bad I have no idea where all my baseball cards from my childhood went..
Thanks Mom!
Love it Gary!
October 10th, 2008 at 4:59 pm
Very cool! It seems that with enough passion, knowledge and commitment you can make a business out of almost anything. Great idea, I really want to see someone make it big with this and other similar opportunities.
October 10th, 2008 at 5:00 pm
Love this idea about creating numerous shows. Just sharing how easy it is to begin making content at a very low cost.
October 10th, 2008 at 5:05 pm
1st time commenter, long time viewer. We actually met this past Tuesday night at the Mediabistro event. I asked what kind of wine is good for a girlfriend who doesn’t drink it much. Anyway, I have that entire ‘91 Upper Deck set in a custom made hardwood case. The way this economy is going, the Griffey card is probably worth more than some stocks I own.
October 10th, 2008 at 5:06 pm
I like this. People can expand on this in their own areas of expertise. Instead of doing infoproducts than are flat and only communicate one way, you can definitely create a community around what you like. Couple this with some of the 37signals strategies on capitalizing more than once on the same content and you are good: http://www.37signals.com/svn/posts/1256-making-money-twice
October 10th, 2008 at 5:07 pm
i’m pretty sure somebody will do that soon
or maybe not, as always there is a lot of people who talks but as soon they realize the works behind every little thing they will give up.
October 10th, 2008 at 5:07 pm
Awesome, makes me want to buy some hockey cards, run home and set up the camera, thanks Gary.

October 10th, 2008 at 5:09 pm
Just another example of, if you have interesting and rockin’ content…they will come!! Way to go Gary!!
October 10th, 2008 at 5:09 pm
Okay, so who knew there was caffeinated wine?
October 10th, 2008 at 5:10 pm
Gary,
Stellar.
seriously, great run through
October 10th, 2008 at 5:10 pm
This would be great for building a community, as each episode would open up many angles for conversation. Take it up a step and build social networking into your site to leverage the community. Opens up even more sponsorship and revenue opportunities.
October 10th, 2008 at 5:11 pm
Great show gary. the main take-aways i got from this video:
- low up front cost (i’m not doing cards, but the idea that doing a daily passion tv show should have a low up front cost (or some way of making the topic of your discussion very affordable)) in other words, you might have trouble doing a show about Lamborghinis or Rolls Royces if you live in Tulsa, OK and drive a beat up Ford Pinto.
- sponsors & affiliate programs (w/ebay and others) as a way of monetizing the show
Thanks!

Damn, Gary… is this the start of your new media empire?
Really, really good stuff… hope to pick your brain later this month in Santa Rosa.
October 10th, 2008 at 5:18 pm
Brilliant idea, loved it, has the nostalgic mojo potential.
I hope someone picks the idea and gives it a nice feeling to it.
Probably not me because is not my passion and my knowledge isnt extensive, but someone into it, could make a great show.
October 10th, 2008 at 5:22 pm
Great Show Gary! Loved the passion
October 10th, 2008 at 5:27 pm
Great idea, love how you went into details. Most people generalize way too much. You spelled it out! Nice work.
Gary - what camera did you use for this vid? The audio and picture quality is really good!
October 10th, 2008 at 5:30 pm
Love the idea! I think Gary should really do a sports related podcast at some point. He gets to many people in the chat trying to talk sports, that would be an incredibly interactive environment for him.
October 10th, 2008 at 5:36 pm
wonderful wonderful idea, shame I don’t watch more sports or even baseball anymore.. my father bought me about 10,000 packs(boxes and boxes and boxes.. of packs) of baseball cards when i was little, and still have them.. could be supplied for life…. shoot me and email if want to see pictures or interested in using/buying them (anyone).. also hundreds of old old comics.. could be another good twist as all the comics i have are in boxes.. just randomly pull one out.. and talk about it.. love the idea

Great show. You got me thinking of a few ideas, thanks for giving to the community.
October 10th, 2008 at 6:18 pm
love this.
idea to add, would be great to have a separate camera with a close up shot (and perhaps a little stand for you to put the card on) so you could get a close, focused shot on the card.
October 10th, 2008 at 6:21 pm
that was great and I love sports cards!!! why don’t YOU start the show???
great example GV.
October 10th, 2008 at 6:35 pm
Very cool idea, I can see something like this really working. Just think of all the sponsors one could hit up, sports drinks, beer companies, auto, and the list goes on. This could work with the right host.
Keep up the good wrok, Gary!

I was a baseball card fan as a kid, but I haven’t been into it in years. This got me really excited though.
I think a show like this could totally re-ignite the sports card industry (assuming it needs to be lit) and get people excited about it. Just as it would bring sports cards fans to video blogging, it could bring others to the cards. In short, it could change the Sports Card World.
I love watching anyone who is enthusiastic and passionate about what they are doing. If you are real and entertaining, I think people would watch for sure.
Another great idea, GV.
October 10th, 2008 at 7:10 pm
A great idea Gary! I appreciate how you walk through the steps to make it successful! You should take this idea and all of the other ones I’m sure you think up and either make an ebook or full book out of it all.
I really hope someone takes this idea and runs with it. I still have some valuable cards but haven’t been into cards since grade school. However, hearing you explain the steps and idea makes me think that there are some other opportunities which would utilize the same tips/strategy. I want to do some research into these ideas to see if anything like this exists yet…hmmm
Keep up the great work Gary!
October 10th, 2008 at 7:20 pm
Gary, you rock! I’m not into cards, but I can really see potential for this kind of show. It’s not just sports, you could open two decks of collectible card game like Magic the Gathering and play a game live.
On a side note, I noticed that this was the first video I watched on this site which ended with you smiling. Maybe you should stop talking about personal branding and hustle 2.0 and talk more about cards
October 10th, 2008 at 7:41 pm
Thanks G,
I’m going to forward this to a buddy of mine who really knows baseball cards. Three of us were all bat-boys for the L.A. Dodgers back in 1983.
Have a great weekend,
Coop
October 10th, 2008 at 8:09 pm
Gary you’re a true genius. You know your stuff, and your ideas are just phenomenal! You’re certainly an inspiration.
October 10th, 2008 at 8:15 pm
Get Idea Gary!
October 10th, 2008 at 9:05 pm
Will podcast for baseball cards.
October 10th, 2008 at 10:02 pm
hey gary! you rock but I do think a lot of your business talk has been a lot of hot air. lot of general talk about big picture stuff (all love though).
I’m a nuts and bolts guy and you breaking down how you would go about an idea is great. Seeing how you would attack a specific idea is a great way to see you in action.
so go niche gary! talk about specific ways you would do stuff and people will get the big picture stuff on their own.
October 10th, 2008 at 10:32 pm
dude, that was your best episode on GV ever bruddah, right on - solid info.
I never even thought of having a sponsor for my show, who knows who will step up and sponsor me…. about to hit episode # 50, time flies!
thanks GV!

October 10th, 2008 at 11:22 pm
I like this - I might have to start up a hockey card vlog north of the border!
October 10th, 2008 at 11:52 pm
After watching that, I think I’m going to have to browse through some of the baseball cards I haven’t looked at since the 90’s!
October 11th, 2008 at 12:14 am
You should do this show yourself Gary. You have what it takes to make a show like that very successful.
October 11th, 2008 at 12:17 am
Love it!
Great to walk us through it.
October 11th, 2008 at 12:51 am
Probably the BEST gv.com
October 11th, 2008 at 8:50 am
My favorite episode yet. In this one my pal Gary doesn’t just talk theory - he shows us how it’s put into practice. And he’s making me realize I should be doing more video in the future.
October 11th, 2008 at 11:22 am

Fantastic advice and real-life example of how easy it really is to setup a business with a specific business plan, aimed at growth and monetization.

I just recorded the first episode of Baseball Card Talk for the 10/15 launch of MVN.com’s MVN TV channel. I’ll post the link once it’s up. I’ll be setting up live streams on US Stream once I have the set up nailed down.
Thanks for the inspiration Gary! Would love to get your take on the first episode once it’s up.

I’ll trade you my blog for a Brett Favre Rookie Card…
Thanks Gary, awesome idea, I love the way you think out of the box!
October 12th, 2008 at 1:29 am
Love it Gary
Keep it coming.
October 12th, 2008 at 4:10 am
I want to start the Sports Card Show and then get my “fans” to send me wine…
October 12th, 2008 at 9:37 am
Great show, GV, thanks for sharing! I could do something like that. Not baseball cards, though.

Love the idea, as always your energy and enthusiasm are contagious. Don’t ever stop with the great ideas!!
(Robby Thompson was a 2nd baseman for the Giants except for one game during 86, where my guess is Uribe was hurt.)

@aaron Get lost and leave your spam elsewhere. Gary is all about passion and authenticity. That’s what this community loves about him. Putting spam in the comments here only hurts you.
October 13th, 2008 at 10:04 am
Love the show idea. I can see something like being done for a lot of different scenarios. Keep up the great work!
October 13th, 2008 at 10:37 am
Love the show idea, unfortunately I don’t know enough about sports to do that. I sent it to my Bro-In-Law to have him check it out. I’m planning on doing my own thing though.
October 13th, 2008 at 10:40 am
Since you asked on Twitter so nicely, awesome show Gary, you’re one of my role models, keep up the good work!
October 13th, 2008 at 10:59 am
Thanks so much for this, Gary. Breaking down the idea-generation process is very helpful.
October 13th, 2008 at 12:38 pm
FYI, if you do this show…
Keep it short (not an hour). Studies show significant viewer dropoff starting at 2:45 (less than 3 minutes).
October 13th, 2008 at 1:22 pm
Perfect example of doing what you love. Insightful.
October 13th, 2008 at 3:54 pm
Gary:
You are one of just a few that inspired me to get into online video. My current niche is stock options and the website is http://www.investingwithoptions.com/ .. It’s still a little rough around the edges but I’m trying to pump out as much content as I can.
And yes, I will be soliciting your advice sometime soon
October 13th, 2008 at 4:27 pm
Hey Gery!! Im new to the wine world and a new viewer to your show. I love it, so much info i didnt know about wines. Could you do a show on white zinfandel, thats my everyday wine and could use some info on that. The wine i drink is called Mad Housewife and is very enjoyable, sweet and inexpensive for the tough times. Maybe you could use it in one of your “on the cheap side” tasting showes. Cheers… Stacy

Good ideas. I only know two folks that have made it in video blogs. You and Savor hospitality by Todd Mohr. why not more? Good idea, Gary!
October 14th, 2008 at 1:27 pm
Gary, great post.
I would like to say that because of this post my brother and I got our stuff into gear and ‘hustled’ to create our new Video site. It isn’t about Baseball Cards, it is a bit broader than that but it’s stuff we are interested in and we hope other people will enjoy.
We started with a blank page on Sunday afternoon and launched ‘From the Couch’ this morning. Here is a link: http://www.from-the-couch.com
Thanks for the inspiration and kick in the a**

This is already being done on a number of websites across the sports card and memorabilia hobby. A lot of them are pretty bad,but they’re everywhere. Most deal with new products (Gary, sorry to say the older stuff you’ve got there is was way overproduced and not worth much!).
The key, of course is to drive traffic to you amid all that competition.

October 28th, 2008 at 12:56 pm
I was at WalMart the other day exchanging a keyboard, and while waiting for the manager, found myself right next to the cards - baseball, football, YuGiOh, Pokemon, etc, etc
And who popped into my mind? Why you, of course! I was looking and thinking, and looking and thinking…
And then I saw a set of cards that I (and my daughter) would LOVE to do a show about and I started getting excited!
I’m not entirely certain it would work, as it is a micro-micro-niche - but, I just won’t know until I try, will I?

Great ideas Gary!
