Practicality vs. Praying

Posted by | Classics, Uncategorized, Video | No Comments

What’s happening in 2010 is not that if you pray hard, or if you work really hard and “crush it” until 5 in the morning, that it’s going to happen. What I am talking about and what I am outrageously passionate about and what I think about on a daily basis, whether it’s consulting for my brands or it’s for you at home right now who loves the smurfs and smurfs it up. It’s not about the fact that if you work hard enough you’ll get it it’s a fact that it’s practical to have that bat. It’s like not everyone, I want to be freakin’ Mark Sanchez and be the QB of the NY Jets, but I can sit here all I want, even if I trained football all day I dont know if you see it, its not…

Smurf It Up!

Posted by | Classics, Uncategorized, Video | No Comments

If you have a passion, build your business around the thing you love the most because then you’ll work hardest at it. Then, you know what a lot of people after that talk about things that are too small too or small of a niche? But I think what is really fascinating is whats happening right now. At this moment right now, Smurfs is going to be made into a movie. The buzz is out. The first trailer is out. And so here is an interesting idea. I can’t help but wonder if somebody was in the audience like, “Yeah man I do love the smurfette, like that’s my passion.” And they built a community around the Smurfs, like a site. Maybe people photoshop photos, a forum..a smurf world. Here is what I can promise, if it is the…

The Real News Regarding Facebook

Posted by | Classics, Uncategorized, Video | No Comments

What I think is far more important is the 5 year deal that they just signed with Zynga. You know, the people that bring you Farmville and other social games. The deal is signed to 5 years, Zynga is not going any where. And more importantly the entire deal circles around Facebook credits. Because Facebook credits will be used in their games and their platforms and will spread through everybody else, that is kind of the big dog, they do have an ecosystem and a platform to build new games and rocket launch new products. Facebook credits becoming standard and working and when you look at the profit margin that Facebook is looking at, taking 30%, so if Zynga sells 200 million dollars in virtual goods, Facebook ends up with 60 million dollar of…

Competitiveness… Good or Bad? Important?

Posted by | Classics, Uncategorized, Video | No Comments

I feel that if you don’t have somebody in your organization or company that really is built or completely driven at some level by competition, that you can’t win. That it is something that a lot of people need to consider. And for me the fact that I ripped out that article and the fact that really drove me.. and listen I know my role, I know my spot, which is I am nobody compared to most of the names there.. and so that is why I am not in the ad and I get it. But if you don’t think that still drives me, if you don’t think that ripping out that article, purely subconscious, and said “okay Audible.com, okay.” You know, thats the kind of stuff that is absolutely backbone of the success that I have. And I…

Facebook Fan Pages

Posted by | Classics, Uncategorized, Video | No Comments

It is long been my position that Facebook Fan Pages are the most important sites to a brand any where on the internet. Maybe more important than our own homepage. The ecosystem of what Facebook is and the flexibility that the fanpage allows you to do all these creative things and the virality once it becomes on the newsfeed is so iconic that I think it is a shift for Facebook to get more people to feel like they can “like” more things. Becoming a fan feels kind of heavy, like am I a fan of Coke?, but “like it,” yeah I like it, it’s like a hookup instead of marriage. I think it is a very big shift. I think that it will increase the amount of fan pages that you follow and I think by virtue increases the business…

Stop The Spam

Posted by | Classics, Uncategorized, Video | No Comments

Why do brands in any shape or form, and I’ve seen this a couple of times, think that it is a good idea to come on other fan pages in their genre and spam the wall? I haven’t wrapped my head around it. It’s not that effective for every one random lucky conversion you get you are losing 20 conversion potentials longterm and the people that hone these accounts like me, that could conceivably “biz dev” with somebody like this completely are put in a place where they are disgusted at best and they will never do business with you. I don’t know. I’ve been seeing a lot of people more and more go to Facebook pages and leave offers or deals or trying to use it to syphon traffic. I think it is a grave mistake….

Work/Work Balance

Posted by | Classics, Uncategorized, Video | No Comments

I am making some big changes for 2010 and it’s because the reason I got to a place where I could write a book like Crush and people bought it or the fact that people want me to come and speak, I am here in Australia to speak at a conference, which by the way will be my last of 2010. I really need to start executing and I need to start learning again. I need to get smarter and the way I get smarter is by reading and living, putting my head down and executing, I need to taste it. One thing I pride myself in is the reason I come with such badass conviction every time is that I am not reading it on somebody else’s blog. I am tasting that stuff. Thats how I roll. I live it.

Mind Your Manners

Posted by | Classics, Uncategorized, Video | No Comments

A lot of people are starting to understand the real line in the sand between what Facebook and Twitter can do and what other social networks and platforms can do. And really Facebook is so robust with customizable fan pages there is so much more flexibility to story tell. But what is very powerful about Twitter and other platforms and even leaving comments on your blog I think that brands have completely lost touch or more importantly people have underestimated the value of saying “thank you” and “you’re welcome.” Showing people comments on twitter and then watching these brand people look at me and say “what do you do with that?” you say “thank you.” The power of thank you and…

Just A Little… Patience

Posted by | Classics, Uncategorized, Video | No Comments

I am convinced that people do not understand that it takes patience and a long time to build a real business. 18 months of blogging or putting up a website or having a business is not enough time to retire and go lay on a beach for the rest of your lives. It just blows my mind that people don’t get it. It takes a long time. You don’t need to be naive, head in the sand, and not recognize if what your doing is good or not. But if you have steady traction, you don’t need to win the lotto. You absolutely have to grind it out. Your grandparents or great grandparents didn’t come to this country then after 2 years expected to have it all. Our skin has gotten too thin and people are just giving up too fast.
